Almanes Crenshaw, Jr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Almanes Crenshaw Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world on July 20, 2026, at the age of 83. Almanes was born on May 6, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to his loving parents, Almanes Crenshaw and Elizabeth Zora Mcfadder Almanes lived a life filled with love, laughter, and stories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. He was predeceased by his dear sister, Gwendolyn Crenshaw Peters, but is survived by a devoted family who will continue to carry his legacy forward. His children, Jamal Alman Crenshaw and Teshomi Crenshaw, held a special place in his heart, as did his grandchildren, Jabari A. Crenshaw, along with his wife Carly, and Tedasia Goins. Almanes was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Peace and Cho-zen, who brought immense joy to his later years. His love extended to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins scattered along the East Coast. Almanes shared a chapter of his life with Chequita A. Warfield, to whom he was married on July 27, 1968, until their paths diverged on February 5, 1983. A man of dedication and service, Almanes enlisted in the Army in 1963 and served honorably until 1967. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a computer operator at Duke University and the American Stock Exchange, later transitioning into a security role that suited his attentive and protective nature. Education was important to Almanes, and he honed his skills at a school of automotive studies, always eager to learn and explore. An enthusiast of photography, he was known for his keen eye and the way he captured the essence of life through his camera lens. His passion for African American history and art was evident in his storytelling, as he shared tales that enriched the lives of those around him. Almanes faced the challenges of congestive heart failure and spent years on dialysis, yet his spirit remained unyielding. His family extends their deepest gratitude to Elmhurst Nursing Care Facility and Forest Hills Hospital for their unwavering care and compassion. In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in lieu of flowers, to continue the spirit of giving that Almanes embodied throughout his life. Almanes Crenshaw Jr.'s journey may have come to an end, but his stories, teachings, and love will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace, dear Almanes, as you join those who have gone before you.
