Alma Pearl Bigam
October 20, 1939 — May 12, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alma Pearl Bigam, who departed peacefully at her home on May 12, 2026, after an extended illness. Born on October 20, 1939, in the quaint town of Orma, West Virginia. Alma graced the world for 86 years with her quiet dignity, humble grace, and an indomitable spirit that inspired all who knew her.
Alma was the eighth child of the late Ellsworth and Myrtle McCune. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1957 and pursued her passion for care and healing at the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1960. She dedicated over thirty years of her life as a Registered Nurse at Akron City Hospital, providing compassionate care to countless patients until her retirement in 1999.
Alma was preceded in death by her previous husband, Jim Bigam, with whom she shared many wonderful years, and her precious great-granddaughter, Isabelle Grubaugh. She was also predeceased by all her siblings, yet she carried the memories of her family with her, nurturing the bonds that have been the cornerstone of her life.
A life synonymous with kindness, generosity, and loyalty, Alma was a beacon of love for her surviving family: her devoted husband, David Drummond; her daughter, Valerie (Jason) Grubaugh; son, Gary (Teri) Cox; and her treasured grandchildren, Crystal (Patrick) Swaidner, Steven Swaidner, Sarah (Scott) Batley, Ben (Hannah) Swaidner, and Khayman (Danielle) Cox. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Natalie, Madison, Grace, Camden, Ayden, Landyn, Griffin, and Grayson, who were the light of her life. Alma also leaves behind numerous extended family members and dear friends who enriched her journey.
In the tapestry of Alma's life, joy was threaded through her many hobbies and interests. She delighted in wintering in Florida, embarking on adventures through cruises, and gracing the dance floor with elegance. Alma's hands were never idle; they were often found crocheting, picking blueberries, apples, and pears, or piecing together puzzles. Her love for a good card game or a round of dominoes was matched only by her love for the company of family and friends.
Alma's tenacious determination in the face of adversity garnered admiration, and her quick quips brought laughter and warmth to every gathering. She lived a life of purpose and grace, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all she encountered.
A memorial service for Alma will take place on May 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with calling hours from noon - 2:00 p.m., at the Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, located at 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Alma Pearl Bigam's journey on Earth may have ended, but her spirit will forever grace the hearts of those she loved. Her legacy of kindness and love will continue to illuminate the lives she touched.
