Alma Pearl Bigam
October 20, 1939 — May 12, 2026
Alma Pearl Bigam, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on May 12, 2026, at the age of 86, after courageously battling an extended illness. Alma was born on October 20, 1939, in the small, tight-knit community of Orma, West Virginia, to Elsworth and Myrtle McCune. Her life, rich with purpose and love, touched countless hearts and will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Alma's journey was marked by her unwavering commitment to caring for others, a passion that led her to a dedicated career in nursing. For 36 years, she served as a Registered Nurse at Akron City Hospital, where her gentle touch and compassionate care brought comfort to many. Alma retired in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in patient care and the admiration of her colleagues and patients alike.
Family was the cornerstone of Alma's life. She was predeceased by her first husband, Jim Bigam, and their cherished great-granddaughter, Isabelle Grubaugh. Alma's unwavering love and guidance continue to live on through her surviving husband, David Drummond, her devoted children, Valerie (Jason) Grubaugh and Gary (Teri) Cox, and her treasured grandchildren: Crystal (Patrick) Swaidner, Steven Swaidner, Sara (Scott) Batley, Ben (Hannah) Swaidner, and Khayman (Danielle) Cox.
Alma's joy was magnified by her eight great-grandchildren: Natalie, Madison, Grace, Camden, Aiden, Landyn, Griffin, and Grayson, who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience. Her family was her greatest pride, and her love for them was evident in her warm smile and gentle hugs.
A service to honor Alma's remarkable life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 2:10 p.m. at the Cox-McNulty Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate a life lived with grace, dignity, and unwavering love for others.
In the quiet moments, Alma found peace in the simple joys of life—her garden, where she cultivated both flowers and serenity, and the comfort of a well-loved book. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her famous apple pie, a treat that was as much a part of family gatherings as her heartwarming stories.
Alma's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy is one of compassion, strength, and an enduring love that will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories of a remarkable woman who lived a life of service, love, and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Alma's memory to the Nursing Scholarship Fund at Akron City Hospital, ensuring that her passion for caring for others continues to inspire future generations.
