It is with deep sorrow and immense gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Alma Lily Smith on July 8, 2026, at the age of 95. Alma departed this world while at home, surrounded by the love of her cherished family.
Born on June 6, 1931, in Madison, Georgia, Alma was the beloved daughter of the late Will Henry and Tommie Lee Williams. Her early years were marked by a strong family bond and a modest upbringing in Morgan County, where she pursued her education up to the sixth grade. Alma's life was a testament to her enduring resilience and boundless love for those around her.
Alma was united in Holy Matrimony to George Lewis Smith, with whom she shared over 40 beautiful years until his passing in 2005. Together, they built a family rooted in love and togetherness. Alma is predeceased by her husband, George Lewis, her parents, her sisters Mattie Mae River, Ida Mae Whaley, and Leam Locklin, her brothers Righteous "Jack" James Williams and Willie Frank Williams, and her son, Larry Williams.
Alma's legacy lives on through her surviving children: Jimmy Brown (Barbara Brown), Michael Brown, William Smith (Monica Smith), and Gary Smith. She was the proud grandmother to Jamel Brown (Latonya Brown), Alfonso Brown, Jermaine Brown, Ashley Wilburn, Shardanee Brown, Demontavious Smith, Dahmain Wilburn, Degarrious Smith, Quindarius Crutchfield, Shavonne (Brandi) Brown, Deontavious Davis, Janiya Smith, and Jared Smith and Special granddaugther Ashley Handley. Her love extended to 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy, and she enjoyed a vibrant family life enriched by a host of extended family and friends.
For over 40 years, Alma dedicated her professional life to the Carrell family as a nanny, retiring in 2013. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
Alma's spiritual journey began at a young age when she joined Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Alma had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, a testament to her loving and caring nature. Her family and friends were her greatest treasures, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
A devoted fan of baseball and basketball, Alma delighted in spirited debates with her grandson Alfonso about the merits of Lebron James versus Kobe Bryant. These conversations were just a glimpse into her vibrant personality and zest for life.
A service to celebrate Alma's extraordinary life will be held on July 18, 2026, at Jackson Funeral Home, located at 1338 Gratis Rd, Monroe, GA 30656. Alma's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown love and compassion during these difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Alma's generous spirit.
