Allen Phillip Pompei

November 2, 1931 — October 28, 2026

Allen Phillip Pompei, affectionately known as "Pop", departed this world peacefully on October 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Allen was 5 days shy of turning 95 years old. Born on November 2, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Allen was the youngest child of Orlando and Alvaretta Pompei, growing up alongside his cherished sisters, Elsie and Blanche, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. At the tender age of 18, Allen answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Air Force in December 1950. His four years of dedicated service were followed by a return to Virginia, where he began his long and fulfilling career at Pompei Tile Company, working alongside his father, Orlando. Allen’s commitment to the family business spanned more than three decades, culminating in his role as joint owner before Allen’s retirement just shy of his 55th birthday. Retirement, however, did not slow Allen down. He embraced new adventures, turning his attention to net fishing and crabbing, activities that he enjoyed. His beloved wife of over 50 years, Virginia D. Pompei, enjoyed shedding and selling soft shell crabs and blue crab meat along with him. Over the years, Pop enjoyed swinging on his porch, breakfast at Eggheads or Angelo’s, gardening, maintaining his lawn, and hanging out with his grandkids. A man of faith and community spirit, Allen was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees. His affiliations extended to the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Duck’s Unlimited, and the Chesapeake Bay Society, reflecting his diverse interests and dedication to service. Allen’s warmth and humor were infectious; he always had a joke or a witty remark to share, endearing him to all who knew him. His unique personality left an indelible mark on family and friends. Pop had 2 special friends, Ms Patricia Binder who he confided in and stayed close with for over 17 years. He also had a breakfast and ride-or-die buddy George Stephenson, who held a happy place in his heart. Allen loved his family and helping out wherever he could. His grandson, Trevor held an especially cherished place in his heart, having devoted nearly a decade of his life to lovingly caring for him in the comfort of their home. Their bond was one of unwavering love, dedication, and companionship. Allen was predeceased by his devoted wife, Virginia, his parents, and his sisters. He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Kathryn Pompei Moore (Jeff) and Patricia Pompei Capps (Bruce), his five grandchildren—Tony Moore, Jessica Weiss (Jeremy), Reggie Moore (Meredith), Trevor Capps (Sandy), and Madison Capps (Desmond)—and five great-grandchildren, Sloan and GG Weiss, Mason and Allie Moore, and Gianna Pompei. To honor Allen's life and legacy, family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Both at Amory Funeral Home Chapel, located at 410 Grafton Dr, Yorktown, Virginia. A graveside service and burial will follow at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, where Allen will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Zion United Methodist Church, the American Diabetes Association, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Allen's memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Warwick Forrest for their professional and compassionate care during Allen’s final days.
