Allan Douglas Edgerly, a man whose life was a testament to resilience, love, and kindness, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2026, after bravely battling immense pain. Born on March 21, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut, Allan was a cherished soul who touched the lives of many. Allan was the beloved son of the late Ruby (Bockus) Edgerly and Thomas Edgerly, and he shared a special bond with his siblings, Janet Lake and Stephen Edgerly, who predeceased him. Allan's legacy continues through the hearts of his surviving family: his devoted wife of 56 years, Carol Edgerly; their cherished daughter Christine Sessa and her husband Matt Sessa; and their treasured granddaughter, Evaleigh Rose Sessa. Allan and Carol's love story began as high school sweethearts. They married on July 21, 1970, building a life of warmth and hospitality that extended to all who entered their home. Together, they raised their daughter Christine, fostering a nurturing and loving environment that welcomed family and friends alike. Allan and Carol celebrated the addition of their son-in-law, Matthew, and were overjoyed with the birth of their granddaughter Evaleigh, who brought immense joy to Allan's life. A graduate of East Hartford High School and Hartford State Technical College, Allan wore many hats in his younger years, working numerous jobs until he found his true calling as a devoted husband and stay-at-home dad. His presence at home was a source of strength and love, illustrating a commitment to family that was unwavering. Allan was also a proud member of the Free Masons, embodying the values of brotherhood and integrity. Allan's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An enthusiast of old cars, he also possessed a fervent curiosity for genealogy and ancestry, spending countless hours tracing his family roots. His love for astrology and stargazing reflected his wonder for the universe and its mysteries. A creative spirit, Allan had a unique talent for crafting bedtime stories, captivating listeners with his imaginative tales. Music brought him joy, although he was known to have a playful disdain for disco and the Bee Gees. Those who knew Allan will remember him for his gentle and kind nature, a man who had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued and welcomed. His wacky sense of humor and penchant for sarcasm brought smiles to many faces. Allan's resilience was remarkable; he triumphed over adversity from a young age, overcoming a polio diagnosis that doctors claimed would prevent him from walking again. Yet, Allan defied the odds, learning to walk with a cane until post-polio syndrome later required the use of a wheelchair. Despite numerous health challenges, Allan maintained a spirit of gratitude rather than bitterness, embodying a warmth and support that enriched his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The Edgerly family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Heaven's Hands Caregivers and the hospice staff for their compassionate care and for treating Allan like family during his final days. Allan's life was a shining example of love's enduring power and the strength found in kindness and resilience. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know him, a gentle soul who left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
