Alicia Smith

December 18, 1946 — June 14, 2026

Alicia Smith, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 18, 1946, in the vibrant city of San Diego, California, Alicia was the cherished daughter of Salvador M. and Alicia Ruiz Contreras, who had emigrated from Mexico in search of a better life for their family. She was raised on Claydelle Street in El Cajon, surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of her large family, including her five sisters and five brothers. Alicia was a woman of remarkable grace and spirit, known for her expressive eyes and cheeky smile that could light up any room. Her warmth and humor left an indelible impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy is one of resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family. Alicia's journey through life was marked by her commitment to nurturing and supporting her family. She married Jerry L. Smith, with whom she had four wonderful children: Jerry L. Smith Jr., Donna Ferguson, Alicia L. Smith, and Billy Smith. Though Alicia and Jerry eventually parted ways, she remained a steadfast and loving presence in her children's lives, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and family loyalty. For the past twenty-nine years, Alicia found joy and contentment living with her youngest daughter and namesake, Alicia L. Smith, in El Cajon. Their close bond was a source of strength and happiness for both, and they shared countless cherished moments together. Alicia's compassionate nature and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by her surviving family members: her children, Jerry Jr., Donna, Alicia, and Billy; and her beloved sisters, Sylvia and Carol. In her passing, she joins her parents and those siblings who preceded her, finding peace in their eternal embrace. Alicia's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and an enduring spirit that will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we remember Alicia, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that touched us all. A private family service will be held to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Alicia's name, as a tribute to her generous and caring heart. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
