Alice Lois Earl Ross, a beacon of style, grace, and love, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on February 27, 2026. Born on February 18, 1944, in the vibrant South Bronx of New York, Alice's life was a testament to the beauty of creativity, family, and unwavering strength. Raised by her loving parents, Wilmot O’Loughlin Earl and Dorothy L. Earl, Alice's early years were spent amidst the bustling energy of New York City. She shared a special bond with her twin brother, Allen Earl, whose passing she deeply mourned. Alice's educational journey through Olinville Junior High School and Evander Childs High School was marked by a flair for fashion, leading her to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Her talent and style were evident early on, earning her the title of “Best Dressed / Fashion Designer” in 1961—a recognition that foreshadowed the elegance for which she would always be known. In 1964, Alice married Tony L. Ross, Sr., the love of her life, in the city that had nurtured her dreams. Together, they embarked on a journey that spanned over six decades, filled with laughter, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family. Their shared love of bowling became a cherished pastime, providing a backdrop for countless treasured memories. Alice's passion for fashion and design was not just a career; it was a way of life. Her natural eye for beauty transformed every space she touched, and she generously shared her knowledge with those around her. Her home was a haven of warmth and style, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for welcoming others. Her family was her greatest joy. Alice was a devoted mother to Tony L. Ross, Jr. and Shena Marie Ross-Fortson, and a doting grandmother to her four grandsons: Shawn L. Ross, Andrew M. Ross-Fortson, Austin R. Ross-Fortson, and Aaron C. Ross-Fortson. Her nurturing spirit extended to her nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Her legacy continues through them, and her memory will forever be cherished by her great-grandchildren and the extended family. Alice's life was a tapestry of quiet strength and grace. She gave of herself generously, offering love and wisdom to those fortunate enough to know her. Her absence leaves a profound void, but her love and teachings remain deeply woven into the fabric of her family's lives. A dual interment ceremony will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in North Carolina, where Alice will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Tony. Together, they will find eternal peace, side by side, as they were in life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Regional Memorial Cremation and Funeral Services, Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Union, Anson Health & Rehabilitation, Novant Health Sun Valley Family Physicians, and Atrium Health Union West for their support during Alice's final days. Alice Lois Earl Ross lived a life well-loved, and her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her memory forward. May her legacy of love, beauty, and strength shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
