Alice Jean Cook (Cookie)

September 26, 1953 — June 8, 2026

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Jean Cook, affectionately known as "Cookie," on June 8, 2026. Surrounded by loved ones, Cookie left this world wrapped in the warmth of family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Born on September 26, 1953, in Los Angeles, California, Cookie was the cherished daughter of Kerry Cook and Mary Alice Norwood. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, her daughter Roshawndra Cook (Nikki), and her brothers James Franklin and Robert Franklin (Top Cat), as well as her brother-in-law Vernon Bell. Cookie's spirit and memory live on through her surviving family: her daughter Rosalyn Whitten, her son Jesse Turner, her sisters LeBarbara Jean Morgan (Ralph Morgan), Charlietta Franklin (Alfred Morgan), Linda Franklin, and Brenda Franklin, and her special friend Connie Willis. She will be fondly remembered by her eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, as well as her cherished fur baby, Mister, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Cookie's educational journey took her through the halls of 66th St. Elementary and John Muir Middle School in the Los Angeles County school district. Ever the lifelong learner, she obtained a General Education Development certification and pursued her passion for beauty at Compton Beauty College, earning a cosmetology certificate. Her thirst for knowledge led her to participate in programs at the WLCAC Watch Labor Community Action Committee, and she proudly received a butchering certificate, showcasing her diverse talents. Cookie's career was as vibrant as her personality. She worked at Turner Meat Market in Los Angeles, California, and later brought her warmth and dedication to Walmart in Casa Grande, Arizona. Her colleagues and customers alike were drawn to her infectious energy and genuine kindness. Known as the life of every party, Cookie's presence was a beacon of joy. She delighted in karaoke, singing, dancing, and playing cards, spades, and dominoes. A fervent Los Angeles Lakers fan, she reveled in the camaraderie of shared experiences with those she loved most. Cookie's selflessness and protective nature were unmatched; she was ready to give her last to anyone in need, embodying the true essence of compassion and generosity. Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find solace in the memories we shared and the lessons she imparted. Cookie's vibrant spirit, unwavering love, and boundless generosity will forever remain in the stories we tell and the lives she touched. Rest in peace, dear Cookie; yours was a life of beauty, and you will be profoundly missed.
