Alice Carol Stewart
January 25, 1945 — September 5, 2026
Alice Carol Stewart, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully left this world on September 5, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on January 25, 1945, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Alice was the cherished daughter of Jacob and Irene Coonce, both of whom preceded her in death.
Alice's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. She met the love of her life, Eugene Stewart, in Idaho City, where they married on June 15, 1963. Together, they crafted a beautiful life over 63 years, raising two wonderful children, Gena Svahn (Gerhard Svahn) and Brent Stewart. Alice and Eugene also worked side by side in their family business, Stewart's Gem Shop, which became a cornerstone of their community and a testament to their partnership. Alice's unwavering dedication meant she continued to contribute to the business until her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
A graduate of Borah High School, Alice had a lifelong passion for learning, which led her to take history classes at Boise State University. Her love for history was matched only by her commitment to service, as seen in her active involvement in the ladies auxiliary post 63, where she served as a past president and held a national position. Her contributions to the community were vast and varied, reflecting her generous spirit and kind heart.
Alice's true joy in life was her family. She was a devoted grandmother to Allison Grissom Smith (Jason Smith) and Alexa Grissom, and her love extended to her cherished grand pups, Star, Garnet, and Minty. Known for her sweet and welcoming nature, Alice made everyone feel valued and loved. Her home was a haven of warmth and kindness, where all were welcome.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene, her children, Gena and Brent, her grandchildren, Allison and Alexa, her brother Jack Coonce (Cherie'), and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will endure.
A service to celebrate Alice's life will be held on October 24, 2026, at The Riverside Hotel in the Aspen room, located at 2900 Chinden Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Alice's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization she deeply admired.
The Stewart family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Alice through her journey with Alzheimer's, particularly the staff at Barber Station memory care unit and Doctors Hospice. Special thanks to Frances Daskalopoulos Goodstat and Lynn Hunter, whose unwavering support and love provided comfort during difficult times. The family is also profoundly grateful to the Coonce family for their love and presence in Alice's final days, and to her granddaughters, Allison and Alexa, and grandson-in-law, Jason, who filled her last days with love and joy.
Alice Carol Stewart's life was a rich tapestry of love, kindness, and dedication. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
