In Loving Memory

Alfred Louis Paget
January 27, 1949 — August 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred Louis Paget, a beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend, who left us on August 25, 2026. Born on January 27, 1949, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Al's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and a tireless spirit of curiosity and craftsmanship.
Alfred, or Al as he was affectionately known, was a fixture in his community. He spent many years as a building inspector with the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), where his keen eye for detail and commitment to safety left a lasting impact. Al's professional life was marked by integrity and a steadfast dedication to excellence, qualities that he carried into all aspects of his life.
In his personal time, Al was renowned for his ability to fix almost anything, earning him the endearing nickname "the guy with one of every tool." Whether he was tinkering with cars or working on his second home in Coal Harbour, his hands were rarely idle. Al's passion for building and repairing was more than just a hobby; it was a way through which he expressed his love and care for those around him. He was a regular at KMS Tools, always on the lookout for the next project or the perfect tool to add to his collection.
Al was blessed with a loving family who will cherish his memory dearly. He is survived by his children, Sarah, Jamie, and Darren, who inherited his resilience and passion for life. His legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren, Miles, June, Olwyn, and Genevieve, who will forever hold dear the stories and lessons shared by their grandfather. Al's long-time partner, Elaine, and her son Douglas also remain to honor his memory, reflecting on the love and joy he brought into their lives.
Al faced his lengthy battle with multiple types of cancer with admirable courage and grace, finding peace in the warm embrace of palliative care at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a cancer support organization of your choice to honor Al's memory and support those who continue to fight this formidable disease.
As we say goodbye to Al, we remember a man whose life was a testament to the power of love, family, and an unwavering dedication to making the world a better place, one project at a time. His spirit will continue to inspire us, and his impact will never be forgotten.
