January 29, 1931 — June 29, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Alfred Bryan Hickman, who departed this world on June 29, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 29, 1931, in the serene town of Dierks, Arkansas, Alfred's journey was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community. Alfred was the beloved son of Alfred Bryan Hickman and Effie Dell Blackwood, who nurtured in him a strong sense of integrity and resilience. His early years were spent in the close-knit community of Okolona, Arkansas, where he attended school through the eighth grade. At the tender age of 15, Alfred's adventurous spirit led him to join the Army Air Force in 1946, where he dutifully served at Davis-Monthan Field in Arizona. With courage beyond his years, he worked with the storage and issuance of ammunitions, including bombs, and assisted in the destruction of defective ammunition. His parents eventually brought him home, but his calling to serve was undeniable. In 1948, Alfred joined the Navy, further extending his dedication to his country. His naval service took him to USNTC San Diego, CA, Bu NAVPERS in Washington DC, USS MACON California 132, and USNH Portsmouth in Virginia. Each assignment bore testament to his unwavering commitment and valor. Alfred was married to the love of his life, Annie Lee Smith Hickman, with whom he shared many beautiful years until her passing. Together, they raised a family built on the foundations of love, faith, and mutual respect. He was predeceased by his dear wife, Annie, their son, Larry Sr., grandson Richard “Richie” Hickman, and his cherished sisters, Gladys Perry, Mary Pute-Banning, Nadine Farmer, as well as brothers Milbren Hickman, Troy Steele, and Marion Lee. A proud veteran, Alfred retired from the IBEW Local 295, where he was respected for his hard work and dedication. His talents extended beyond his professional life into a passion for tinkering with small appliances, later developing a successful refrigeration and repair business. Alfred's life was also enriched by his deep faith. A devoted member of the Assembly of God church, he also attended the Bismarck Pentecostal church. His spirituality found expression in his music ministry, bringing joy to nursing home residents and congregants of Saturday night churches. Alfred's guitar was not just an instrument, but a means to touch hearts and uplift spirits. Family was the cornerstone of Alfred's existence. He is survived by his legacy of 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward his values of love, kindness, and resilience. Alfred cherished every moment spent with his family, often found playing his guitar and sharing stories that will be treasured for generations to come. Alfred Bryan Hickman will be remembered not only for his service and dedication but for the warmth and joy he brought to the lives of those he touched. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and faith, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life of service, love, and unwavering faith. Alfred's memory will forever be etched in our hearts, a beacon of the values he held dear. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Annie and family who have gone before him.
