Alfred Benard McFarland

November 24, 1959 — July 9, 2026

Alfred Benard McFarland, lovingly known as "Big Al," passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on November 24, 1959, in Dallas, TX, Alfred was the cherished son of George Coolidge and Chester Mae McFarland, who preceded him in death alongside his brothers, Charles and George. Alfred was a man of boundless joy and warmth, whose presence lit up every room he entered. A graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, Alfred was a proud Dallas native who dedicated his life to serving his community. He worked for the City of Dallas, but his talents extended beyond his official duties. Alfred was a skilled cook, a meticulous mechanic, and a devoted landscaper, whose hands crafted beauty and functionality wherever he went. His heart, however, was his most defining trait. Alfred never met a stranger, and his generous spirit knew no bounds. He was always ready to help anyone in need, offering not just assistance but also the gift of his long, engaging conversations. Though he never married, Alfred shared his life with two beloved partners, D'Londa Johnson and Deborah Davis, both of whom preceded him in death. He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his legacy forward: biological daughter, Shaniqua McFarland (Faye Starks) , grandson, Liam Baptiste; bonus children, Jalisa (D' Londa Johnson), Kirstie, Oz, and Chris (Deborah Davis); sister, Evelyn Hubbard and brother, Joseph McFarland; nieces, Chandria McDonald and Shavonica Mack; great-nephew, Desmine Hilliard (Tanajia) and great-niece, Kristalyn Bradley, great-great niece, Aralynn Gay, great-great nephews, Arthur Gay, III and Desmine Hilliard, Jr., and a host of close friends and relatives. Alfred's family invites all who knew him to celebrate his life and the indelible impact he left on the world. A service will be held on July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home and Cremations, located at 3906 W. Camp Wisdom Rd., Dallas, TX 75237. As the family reflects on Alfred's journey, they remind us, "The journey does not end here. Love continues in the stories we tell and the memories we keep." Following the service, a celebration of Alfred's life will take place at Big L Park (Bonnie View Park) at 6:00 p.m., with a balloon release at 6:30 p.m., as a tribute to the man who loved freely and deeply. Alfred Benard McFarland touched countless lives with his laughter, kindness, and unwavering spirit. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
