She departed this world peacefully of natural causes on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 21, 1939, in the charming town of Georgetown, South Carolina, Alferetta was the cherished daughter of Helen and Mack Hardy. From an early age, she exhibited a zest for life and a compassion for others that would define her years to come. Alferetta's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, education, and community. After graduating from Central Commercial High School, she pursued her passion for education at Kingsborough College, earning an associate's degree in early childhood education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Brooklyn College, where she achieved a bachelor's degree in special education. In 1957, Alferetta's heart found its lifelong companion in Marion Hasty. They were married on June 28 in Harlem, New York, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter for an extraordinary 68 years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, and their partnership blessed them with seven devoted children: Percy (Wanda), Morris, Sharon, Karen (Michael), Alfreda (Dewitt), and Gwendolyn. Alferetta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marion, daughter Marian, brother Louis Minton, and sisters Ann Edwards and Lila Maye Boyd. She is survived by her brother James Minton, a host of cherished grandchildren, including Darrel (Tammy), Lamar (Jalessia), Yadaya (Presley), Fred (Emery), Terry (Dani), Anthony (Franchi), and Bryonna (Eric), 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit also touched the lives of countless extended family members and friends. Her career began with the Brooklyn City Council, but her true calling was realized in the school system, where she dedicated herself to the education and nurturing of children. Alferetta's warmth and quick wit were felt by all who crossed her path. Her open door policy and ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued were hallmarks of her generous spirit. Beyond her professional life, Alferetta found joy in the simple pleasures of life—sewing, traveling, cooking, and baking. She had a talent for hosting grand family gatherings, transforming ordinary days into extraordinary celebrations with her delicious meals and infectious laughter. Her annual Muse parties were legendary, bringing together family and friends in joyous celebration. Alferetta's legacy is one of unwavering love, compassion, and a boundless generosity of spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
