Alexandra Jane metzler
November 2, 1959 — July 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Alexandra Jane Metzler, who departed this world on the 4th of July, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on November 2, 1959, in Rochester, NY, Alex, as she was fondly known, was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose life was a tapestry of cherished moments and meaningful connections.
Alex was the cherished daughter of the late William and Margaret (Midge) Metzler. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, her sister Susan (Sue) Metzler, and her brother Peter Metzler. While their absence was deeply felt, Alex found solace and happiness in the family she built and the community she nurtured.
She is survived by her loving sister, Dr. Carolyn (Carr), who shared with her a bond that weathered the tests of time and distance. Her legacy continues through her four wonderful children—Adam, Emily, and twins Keight and Kara—each of whom carry forward her spirit of love and resilience. She was a proud mother-in-law to Deb, Ben, and Joshua, finding in them the same joy and acceptance she so generously offered.
Alex’s pride and joy were her grandchildren, Owen and Delaney, who brought endless laughter and light into her life. She cherished every moment spent with them, watching them grow and thrive, each milestone a testament to the circle of life she adored being a part of.
A graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School in 1978 and a holder of an associate degree from Genesee Community College, Alex pursued a career that gave her immense satisfaction and purpose. As an employee of the Ellsworth Fire Department in Ellsworth, Maine, she ended her working days with pride, knowing she contributed to the safety and well-being of her community. Her colleagues and friends remember her dedication, her infectious smile, and her unyielding spirit.
Outside of her career, Alex found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid lover of the sea, often found walking along the shore in search of sea glass and heart-shaped rocks, Kayaking, biking, reading, cross-stitching, and losing herself in the occasional puzzle were among her treasured pastimes.
Her home was also filled with the love of her furry companions—Woody, Sammie, Nicki (her little knickknack), Tess, and Tobey—each a testament to her boundless love for animals. In honor of this love, the family kindly requests donations to any animal rescue or shelter, ensuring Alex's passion for animal welfare continues to touch lives.
Alex’s life was graced by friendships that transcended time. Her best friend, Kerry, stood by her side through life’s many adventures, while her dear friend Michael and countless other friends and co-workers became her extended family, each adding a unique thread to the rich tapestry of her life.
In the words of her family, Alex’s life was made special by all those who were a part of it. Her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and inclusive heart touched everyone she met. As we say goodbye, we hold on to the memories and the lessons she imparted—her legacy of love, compassion, and strength.
May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved deeply and will be remembered always.
