In Loving Memory
Alexander Oliver Jr.
June 3, 1943 — November 29, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Alexander Oliver Jr. on November 29, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 3, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, Alexander brought a lifetime of love, wisdom, and dedication to those fortunate enough to know him. He passed away peacefully at the Veterans' Hospital in Seattle, Washington, surrounded by the devoted medical staff and his beloved son, Alexander W. Oliver III, after courageously battling cancer for over a decade.
Alexander was the cherished son of the late Alexander Oliver and Lessie Mae Oliver and was predeceased by his siblings, Carson Oliver and Barbara Tate, and his daughter, Marian Jude Oliver. He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Linda, his children Alexis and Alexander, his grandchildren Ashley, Morgan, and Ryan, and his eight great-grandchildren. His legacy of kindness and strength will also be carried on by a generous community of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends across the nation who lovingly called him "Dad."
His journey with Linda began with a promise to introduce her to a "friend"—a promise humorously never fulfilled. Their elopement on November 22, 1974, in East St. Louis, Illinois, marked the start of a union that would grow into a home where the door was always open. Together, they nurtured not only their own children but also welcomed friends seeking refuge, guidance, or simply a warm meal. To this day, their home is remembered as a sanctuary of love and support, extending far beyond their immediate family.
A proud graduate of Sumner High School, class of 1961, Alexander pursued his passion for psychology with a focus on athletics at various colleges across the country. He served his nation with honor in the United States Army from 1962 to 1967, spending time in South Korea’s Demilitarized Zone. Following his military service, Alexander worked for Delta Airlines for 30 years, gracing multiple hubs across the United States with his dedication and expertise.
A pillar of his community, Alexander served as an elder at Salem Lutheran Church and was a committed member of Washington Metropolitan AME Zion and the American Legion. His passions were as diverse as they were deep; he was a car enthusiast who built and raced his beloved Ford Fairlane, a martial arts black belt in multiple disciplines, and an avid sports fan. He was known for his electrifying smile, magnetic presence, and a singular loyalty to the University of Michigan Wolverines.
Alexander’s greatest joy and most significant title was "Dad," a role he embraced not only with his children but with many others who sought his guidance and love. His life was one of service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.
The family invites all who knew him to a celebration of Alexander's life on May 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM at The Jewel Event Center, located at 407 Dunn Road, 63031. In lieu of flowers, the family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Seattle Veteran Hospital and Washington Veteran Administration for their dedicated care and support.
Alexander Oliver Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, reminding us all to cherish each other and, as he would say, "Go Blue!"
