In Loving Memory of Alex It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation that we celebrate the life of Alex Wiggins, who passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by his cherished GLS Family at Shady Lane Community Residence. Born on May 24, 1931, Alex's life was a testament to resilience, friendship, and the simple joys that can enrich our world. From a young age, Alex's journey led him to Austin State School at the tender age of 8. It was there that he began a path that would introduce him to lifelong friendships and the communities that became his extended family. On February 1, 1955, destiny played its hand when Alex was admitted to Travis State School, where he met his best friend, Frank. Together, they shared adventures and companionship that would last a lifetime. Their bond was one of understanding beyond words, often expressed through shared gestures and the occasional playful grumble. Their ability to communicate without speaking was a testament to the depth of their friendship. When it was time for rest, they would simply stand up and head to bed, no words necessary. In 1986, Alex and Frank moved to Kenmar Residential Services, where they continued to share their lives as roommates until Frank's passing. Alex's unique spirit shone brightly, even in silence. Though non-verbal, his playful personality was evident, especially when state officials visited, and his favorite word became a mischievous "SHIT," a testament to his spirited nature. Alex's days were filled with the simple pleasures that brought him joy; he loved nothing more than sitting comfortably in his recliner, watching westerns, and indulging in afternoon naps. Fondly nicknamed "Cookie" by those who knew him best, Alex had a sweet spot for cookies and a love for soda. His delight in taking country rides was another reflection of his appreciation for life's uncomplicated joys. Though Alex's voice was seldom heard, his presence spoke volumes. His ability to convey warmth, humor, and companionship through gestures was a gift to those around him. The bonds he formed with his friends and caregivers were lasting, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him. As we say goodbye, we hold dear the memory of Alex's gentle spirit and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to share in his life's journey. May his soul rest in peace, reunited with beloved friends, and forever riding the country roads of eternity.
