August 20, 1954 — August 27, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alberta Smith-Hollins, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who left us on August 27, 2026. Born on August 20, 1954, in Columbia, South Carolina, Alberta was the cherished daughter of the late Rev Daniel Jones and Ida Adams Hollins. She was preceded in death by her dear siblings, John Jones III, Tyrone C. Hollins, Cheryl Javis, Pamela Johnson, and Precious Grooms. Alberta was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Albert, with whom she shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Albert Jr, Alexander, Adonis, and Alexis, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Alberta was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and cherished being a great-grandmother to one. A graduate of Columbia High School, Alberta was recognized as an outstanding student. She pursued her passion for justice at the University of South Carolina, earning a degree in criminal justice. Alberta's dedication to service was exemplified by her five years of military service in the US Army, after which she returned to Columbia to practice law. For 15 years, she served as a private attorney at the Shell law firm, where she became a respected advocate for youth and community causes. Alberta was a devoted member of the Church of Christianity for over 30 years, where she found spiritual fulfillment and formed lifelong friendships. Known for her quick wit and warm smile, Alberta had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her. Her love for life extended beyond her professional achievements. Alberta was an avid fisherman, never missing an open season, and a talented dancer and singer. But above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, and Mimi, who cherished every moment spent with her family. A celebration of Alberta's life will be held on August 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, located at 1303 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Alberta's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to her heart. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Prisma Richland for their unwavering care and compassion during Alberta's final days. Alberta Smith-Hollins will be remembered for her unwavering love, infectious laughter, and the indelible mark she left on everyone she encountered. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
