Albert R Sunick Sr.

Albert R. Sunick Sr. peacefully departed this world on September 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Born on April 8, 1931, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Albert was the baby of ten children to Stephen and Mary (Duchak) Sunick. A proud graduate of Scranton Technical High School in 1949, Albert embarked on a long career with Bethlehem Steel in October 1950. He dedicate many years as a millwright until 1984, followed by a tenure as a mechanic at NFTA until his retirement. His work ethic and commitment were truly commendable, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Albert was a devoted family man, having married his bride Rosemary Laffey on August 5, 1950. Together, they built a beautiful life, blessed with children Bert Sunick, Stephen & Mary Sunick, Stacey & Bill Marchlewski, and Nancy Kellner. He was predeceased by his beloved Rosemary and his oldest daughter Mary Susan Giambrone. Family was the cornerstone of Albert's life, and he took immense pride in his role as a father, grandfather to eight grandchildren, and great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren. His surviving sister in law, Katherine Sunick, and extended family will forever cherish the memories they shared. Albert's passions extended beyond his family and work. He was an enthusiastic member of The Hilltoppers, the Knights of Columbus of Lackawanna, the USW AFL-CIO Union #2601, and Treasurer for the Democratic Committee of the Town of Hamburg. His commitment to these organizations showcased his dedication to community and service. Known for his boundless energy and humor, Albert was always the life of the party, often bringing joy with a well-timed joke or a delightful costume. He had an extraordinary knack for fixing things, taking great pride in maintaining his garage, basement, and home. Albert's love for travel and camping created treasured family memories, and his meticulous restoration of a 1927 Chevy pickup truck to its original glory was a testament to his patience and craftsmanship. A funeral service to honor Albert's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory, 767 Ridge Road, Lackawanna. Followed by burial at the family plot, Hillcrest Cemetery, 5223 Abbott Road Hamburg. There will be a luncheon following the services. Al will be remembered for his unwavering love, infectious laughter, and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. His memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and friends.
