March 18, 1936 — May 14, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Albert Fornatus Thompson. Albert peacefully departed this world on May 14, 2026, at the age of 90, following complications from a hip and femur break. Born on March 18, 1936, in the serene town of West Mountain, Utah, Albert was the cherished son of Fornatus Oscar and Lavina Marchant Thompson.
Albert's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love. He grew up in a loving home alongside his siblings, Evan, Mary, and Maxine, who have all predeceased him. After graduating from Spanish Fork High School, Albert pursued a career as an Electronic Technician, a decision that led him to the Central Utah Vocational School. His career spanned several decades and took him to various parts of the country. He began his journey at Hill Field Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, and later served at the Federal Aviation Agency in Las Vegas, Nevada, before concluding his remarkable career with the National Weather Service in San Diego, California. Albert retired at the early age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and commitment.
On April 29, 1961, Albert married the love of his life, Faye E. Wittwer, in the St. George, Utah LDS temple. Together, they celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage, marked by love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their union blessed them with a beautiful family, including their surviving children: Elaine Parker (Dave), Scott Thompson (Denise), Sherri Dumbrell (Greg), Paula Winchell (Jared), and Jamie Duncan (Jonathan). Albert was also a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 33 great-grandchildren, each one holding a special place in his heart.
Albert's life was guided by his faith and his steadfast commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous capacities, finding particular joy in his roles as a ward clerk and a ward mission leader, where his warm nature and open heart led many to the church.
Known for his big smile and firm handshake, Albert was a beacon of friendliness and service. He possessed an extraordinary talent for building and fixing, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was throwing vibrant street parties or crafting his famous homemade root beer, Albert knew how to bring people together and create lasting memories.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his son, Merl Oscar, whose memories he cherished deeply. Left to celebrate his life are his devoted wife, Faye, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a community of friends who will forever cherish the impact he made in their lives.
A celebration of Albert's life will be held on May 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, located on East Center Street, Lindon, Utah. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember a man whose life was a testament to love, service, and faith.
Albert Fornatus Thompson leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love. His memory will forever be a guiding light for those fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace, dear Albert; you will be deeply missed and eternally loved.
