Alan Oakley Puckett

Alan Puckett, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026. Born on December 20, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, Alan was the cherished son of Oakley and Rushia Puckett. He grew up surrounded by the love and laughter of his family, alongside his siblings: Connie, Sandra, Lionel "BooBoo", Jewel "Boochie", and Martha "Marty". He was predeceased by his parents, Oakley and Rushia, and his dear sister, Elizabeth "DeeDee". Alan's life was enriched by his children, Kathy Dean (husband Brian) and Joseph McDaniel (wife Christina), who inherited his humor and caring spirit. Though not bound by traditional marriage, Alan loved being chased by the ladies throughout his life, leaving behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories. Alan was the embodiment of charisma, a man whose quick wit, warm smile, and striking baby blues could light up any room. His humor was legendary, always ready with a joke to lift spirits and bring joy to those around him. Beneath his rugged exterior, Alan possessed a heart of gold, filled with compassion and generosity. He was known for his steadfast willingness to help others, often giving selflessly, even if it meant sacrificing his own comfort. A lover of the great outdoors, Alan found serenity in fishing and camping, pastimes that allowed him to connect with nature and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and loved ones. More than anything, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his nine grandchildren: Grayson, Dakota, McKenzie, Joseph Jr., Thomas, Karleigh, Madison, Tasha, and Jordan. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he reveled in every moment he shared with them. He also shared a special bond with his grand dog Paco. Alan lived life by his own rules. He was a family man but also a nomad, letting life take him on whatever journey it had for him. He was grounded by strong family roots but also loved to go wherever the wind would take him. A free spirit and adventurer. His memory will forever be treasured by his siblings, children, grandchildren, and all who had the honor of knowing him. Alan's life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to be touched by his presence. A celebration of life will be held at Hanover Wayside Park, 8225 Hanover Wayside Road, Mechanicsville, Va 23116.
