October 31, 1955 — January 4, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Michael Wahl, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer. Alan was at home, surrounded by the love of his family in Metairie, Louisiana. Born on October 30, 1955, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Alan was the beloved son of the late Aldon Wahl Sr. and Ruby Wahl, who predeceased him. Alan’s journey began as a graduate of Redemptorist High School in 1973. Fueled by a passion for learning, he attended the University of New Orleans, where he studied history and education, fields that would shape his love for storytelling and sharing knowledge. Alan honorably served in the United States Air Force, exemplifying dedication and patriotism, before receiving a distinguished Honorable Discharge. Alan found his professional calling as a Meter Reader for Entergy of Louisiana, a career he devoted himself to for many years until his retirement in 2023. His work ethic and dedication were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Yet, Alan’s life was about more than his career; he possessed an insatiable curiosity and a genuine love for music, literature, and nature. He was an avid reader, often found with a book in hand and a tune in his heart. Tending to his garden brought him peace and joy, and he relished the time spent cooking for his family and playing with his cherished pets. In 2014, Alan married the love of his life, Caren Hamel, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with laughter, companionship, and a mutual adoration for animals. Alan was a devoted husband, and together they created a warm and loving home that welcomed family and friends alike. Alan is survived by his beloved wife, Caren, his siblings Kathleen Hall, Aldon Wahl Jr., Michael Wahl, and Brian Wahl Sr., who remember him as a wise and generous brother. His intelligence and wisdom made him a sought-after tutor and mentor, always willing to lend a hand or a kind word to those in need. A service to celebrate Alan’s life will be held on March 19, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 1001 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner, LA 70065. The interment of ashes will follow at Greenwood Cemetary. Family and friends are invited to honor Alan’s memory and share in a tribute to a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Alan’s name to Rolling River Rescue, an organization that reflects his love for animals. Donations can be made at https://www.rrrrescue.org/donate. Alan, your gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering love for your family and friends will remain in our hearts forever. As we navigate this world without your physical presence, we take solace in the memories and legacy you leave behind. You will be forever in our hearts.
