Alan Christensen

Alan Christensen, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 10, 1954, in Dillon, Montana, Alan was the son of Arthur and Margaret Christensen. He grew up with a love for the outdoors and a passion for nurturing life, attributes that would define much of his journey. Alan was a proud graduate of Beaverhead County High School in 1972. He pursued his love of nature by earning a Bachelor's degree in horticulture from MSU Bozeman in 1976. A talented landscaper, Alan spent 25 years transforming spaces into beautiful lawns and gardens. Always eager to grow, in 2000, Alan returned to his alma mater, Montana State University-Billings, to obtain a Master’s degree in education. His career took a new direction as he dedicated himself to teaching at Crow Agency for five years. Alan then joined the education department at MSU Billings, where he inspired countless students while teaching reading and social studies for 20 years until his retirement in 2022. He was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and gift for storytelling, making everyone feel welcome and valued. Alan was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Montana Nurserymen Association, served on the board of Young Families, and contributed to the Yellowstone Valley Food Hub and the Beekeeper's Association. His love for gardening was matched only by his passion for reading, which he shared with his family and those around him. In 1976, Alan married the love of his life, Cheryl, and together they spent 50 wonderful years building a family filled with love and laughter. Alan is survived by Cheryl, his devoted wife; their children Tony (Lindsey), Michael (Caitlin), Anna (Tim), and Catey (Andy); his siblings Marian, Calvin, and Donna; and his eleven cherished grandchildren: Liam, Riker, Eden, Ezekiel, Easton, Jacob, Ace, Jaxon, Avary, Arthur, and Leo. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Art and Marge, and his brother Arthur Dale. His generosity and kindness touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Young Families or RiverStone Health Hospice, organizations close to Alan’s heart. The Christensen family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Neurosurgery, Oncology, and Palliative Care teams at Billings Clinic. Special thanks are also given to Cornerstone Caregiving and RiverStone Health Hospice, whose compassionate care supported Alan and his family during his final days. Alan Christensen's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and community. His legacy of love, laughter, and learning will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
