December 6, 1936 — March 1, 2026
Al Szal, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on December 6, 1936, in the vibrant heart of New York, Al lived a life that was as dynamic and colorful as the city itself. With an unwavering spirit and a heart full of love, he touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him.
Al's journey in life was marked by dedication and service, beginning with his time in the United States Army, where he proudly served for three years. Following his military service, Al pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. This academic achievement laid the foundation for a successful career as a Computer Field Engineer, where his keen mind and problem-solving abilities made him a respected professional in his field.
Outside of his career, Al's passions were as varied as they were profound. A talented tennis player, he found joy and camaraderie on the court, his competitive spirit matched only by his gracious sportsmanship. Al was also a skilled wood-turner, crafting beautiful pieces of art that he generously gifted to friends and family. Each creation was a testament to his patience, precision, and the love that he infused into his work.
Al's love for cars was legendary, with a particular fondness for his Porsche and Trans Am. These vehicles were more than just modes of transportation; they were symbols of his adventurous spirit and appreciation for fine engineering. Cooking was another of Al's great loves, and he took immense pleasure in teaching his daughters the art and joy of creating delicious meals. His kitchen was a place of laughter, learning, and love.
Travel was another passion for Al, and he delighted in exploring the world with his beloved wife by his side. Together, they embarked on many international adventures, savoring the sights, sounds, and tastes of far-off places. Al was also a self-proclaimed wine connoisseur, relishing the opportunity to discover new vintages and share his findings with friends and family.
At the core of Al's remarkable life was his unparalleled gift of love. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel cherished and valued, a quality that endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His warmth, kindness, and generosity were the hallmarks of his character, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
In honor of Al's loving nature and his commitment to helping others, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. This gesture will not only celebrate Al's life but also contribute to a cause that was dear to his heart.
Al Szal is survived by his devoted wife, who was his partner in every sense of the word, his loving daughters, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and creativity, and his grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind countless friends and extended family who will miss his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support.
As we bid farewell to Al, we remember a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love and memories he leaves behind will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.
