Aida passed away surrounded by the love of her family at the Dyer Nursing Home in Dyer, IN. Born on November 12, 1940, in the vibrant city of Havana, Cuba, Aida was the cherished daughter of Joaquin and Modesta Perez. Aida's journey through life was marked by her deep devotion to her family and her unwavering kindness. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joaquin and Modesta, her husband Gerardo Lorenzo, and her brother, Orlando Casanas. She leaves behind her devoted partner, Clarence Wright, her loving sons, Arnaldo and Jose Lorenzo, her caring daughter-in-law, Laura Gutierrez, her supportive brother, Manuel Perez, her cherished grandchildren, Kari and Sara Lorenzo, and her ex sister-in-law, Juana Perez, who remained a close part of her life. Aida's legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, who will forever cherish the love she gave them so freely. Aida married the love of her life, Jose Aranely Lorenzo Villaverde, on October 19, 1962. Together, they built a life filled with love, understanding, and shared dreams. Aida was a nurturing mother who always put her children before herself, embodying selflessness and compassion in every action. Aida's professional journey was one of dedication and resilience. She worked as a rater, underwriter, and supervisor for Travelers Insurance Company and also excelled as an insurance sales representative in both personal and commercial lines. Her colleagues remember her as a quick learner with above-average intelligence, a testament to her determination and innate ability to overcome any challenge despite the limited formal schooling she received. In her leisure time, Aida found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed playing hidden object games, often involving her granddaughters, and occasionally indulged in a little gambling, savoring the thrill of the unknown. Her generous spirit extended beyond her family, as she gave selflessly to several worthy causes, leaving a lasting impact on the broader community. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Aida's remarkable life will be held on May 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church, located at 1100 W 133rd Ave, Cedar Lake, IN 46303. Family and friends are invited to gather to pay their respects and share cherished memories of a life well-lived. A special message from Aida's family: "We wish to thank my wife Laura for providing my mom with the best care possible. She took mom to doctor visits, prepared meals, and gave her medicine. We also wish to thank the staff at Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their good care and warm hearts. Thank you for taking care of my mother when we were no longer able to. Their dedication to their patients and their families was very much appreciated. We also wish to thank the hospice nurses, Niki and Irene, for helping to make my mother more comfortable."
