Adeline Inez Simmons

Adeline Inez Simmons, affectionately known as Addie, peacefully passed away at Brookdale Memory Care on September 1, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. Born on June 19, 1929, in Bellingham, Washington, Addie was the beloved daughter of Jennie and Ernest Hicks. Her life was a testament to strength, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Graduating from Bellingham High School in June 1946, Addie soon embarked on a life full of love and adventure. She joined hands in marriage with Oscar Simmons and together they shared 39 wonderful years filled with joy and familial warmth until Oscar's passing in July 1986. Their union blossomed into a large, loving family, nurturing ten children and creating cherished memories along the way. Addie’s professional journey saw her working as a cook at the Factory Cafe in Roseburg during the early 1980s. Her culinary skills then found a home at the Confidence Clinic, also in Roseburg. She delighted in working on the tree farm in Elkton alongside her stepdaughters and took immense pride in her contribution to the family’s ventures. A devout member of the Nazarene church in Sutherlin, Addie instilled strong values in her children, ensuring they attended church and Bible School. She also found camaraderie and joy as a long-time member and officer of the Sutherlin Eagles, an organization that held a special place in her heart. Her legacy as an Eagle is a treasured honor she passed down with pride. Addie’s hobbies were as vibrant as her personality. She relished working on the farm, milking cows, gathering eggs, and feeding pigs. An avid fisherman, Addie was renowned for her ability to cook a trout to perfection. Bingo nights brought her immense joy, and her love for karaoke and dancing was infectious, lighting up the dance floor with her enthusiasm and spirit. Known for her candid nature, Addie spoke her mind with clarity and loved her children fiercely, defending them with all her strength. Family was her world, and her kitchen was the heart of it, where she crafted the best biscuits, a testament to her warmth and nurturing soul. Addie is predeceased by her husband, Oscar Simmons; stepchildren, Juanita Dickson, Roy Simmons, and Buster Simmons; and grandchildren, Timmy Dickson, Bobby Compton, and Ricky Vandecoevering. She leaves behind a loving legacy in her children: Ernestine Davis, Marlene Ness, Daphne Fearnow, Diana Ward, Jo Dollinger, George Simmons, Jerry Simmons, and Steve Simmons; and stepchildren, Eloria Smithey and Verdia Wigtion, along with 22 treasured grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Addie's extraordinary life will be held on September 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Sutherlin Eagles, located at 116 E 2nd St, Sutherlin, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Addie's generous spirit. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Brookdale Memory Care for the exceptional care provided to Addie, with special thanks to Kalisi and the devoted staff. Their kindness and dedication have left an indelible mark on the hearts of Addie’s family, for which they will be forever grateful.
