Ada “Marie” Nicholas

Ada “Marie” Nicholas, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on August 23, 1941, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Ada and Henry Balascio, Marie was the oldest of eight siblings. Her early years in Wilmington were filled with love, laughter, and the close bonds of her large family. Marie graduated from William Penn High School. She embarked on a career as a bank teller. Later, she transitioned to a role as a secretary in Adult Education, dedicating 23 years to supporting the growth and development of others. Marie was married to Wesley Nicholas, her partner and confidant for 62 years. Together, they built a family that was the center of Marie’s world. She was the mother to her daughters, Donna Hubbard and Kristin Kaluza, and a proud grandmother to Bryce Hubbard, and Michael and Matthew Kaluza. Her family was her greatest joy, and she spent countless happy hours shopping with loved ones and creating lasting memories. Marie is survived by her husband, Wesley; her devoted daughters, Donna (husband Bill) and Kristin; and her treasured grandchildren, Bryce, Michael, and Matthew. Her surviving sisters, Marlene Holland, Mary Bowman, and Toni Ernst, will miss her dearly and remember her as a sister who brought light and laughter to every gathering. She is predeceased by her parents, Ada and Henry Balascio, her brothers Charles, Carmen, and Albert, and her sister Janice Gaskins. Their spirits now welcome her home, embracing her with the eternal love of family. Marie’s family will gather on the East Coast to celebrate her life in a service that honors her spirit and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those she loved. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her presence deeply missed.
