Ada Kathryn Scofield

Ada Kathryn Scofield, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on August 1, 1931, in Tacoma, Washington, Ada was the cherished daughter of Charles and Kathryn Grover. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and community. Ada spent her formative years in Tacoma, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. She continued her education at the University of Puget Sound, paving the way for a life enriched by learning and service. Her early career was marked by her dedication to the civil service at Ft. Lewis, a role she held with pride until she married the love of her life, Robert E. Scofield, on March 26, 1955. Together, Ada and Robert built a life filled with love and adventure, raising three wonderful children—Martha, Tracy, and Bradley. After Robert's retirement, they returned to Tacoma, where Ada resumed her professional life as a skilled bookkeeper. Her work was characterized by diligence and integrity, traits she instilled in her family. Ada was predeceased by her loving husband Robert, her sister Jean Russel, and her brothers, Woodrow and John Grover. Her legacy lives on through her children, Martha Scofield, Tracy Vaughn, and Bradley Scofield; her grandchildren, Jason Vaughn (Megan) and Mackenzie Vaughn (Benjamin); and her four great-grandchildren, Eli, Jane, Hope, and Wil, all of whom she adored dearly. A devoted member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood, Ada's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her involvement with PEO further reflected her commitment to fostering friendships and supporting her community. Ada was known for her love of walking, a pastime that connected her to the beauty of the world and the people around her. She made friends effortlessly, her warm smile and kind words touching the lives of everyone she met on her daily strolls. Ada's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Sound Vista Village in Gig Harbor for their compassionate care during her final years. Their dedication and kindness brought comfort and peace to Ada and her family. In keeping with Ada's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her memory. Her family takes solace in knowing that she is now reunited with Robert and her siblings, embraced by the eternal love she so generously gave in life. Ada Kathryn Scofield leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service, a beacon of light for her family and all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
