May 9, 2002 — April 29, 2026

It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that we announce the passing of Abigail Schmitz, a cherished daughter, a devoted mother, and a dedicated soldier. Abigail left us far too soon on April 29, 2026, passing away peacefully at Hazard County. She was surrounded by the music and movement she loved, dancing her way into eternity at the tender age of 23. Abigail was born on May 9, 2002, in the vibrant community of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. From the very beginning, it was clear that Abigail was destined to touch the lives of many. Her parents, Dawn and Everett Sanchez, recall a spirited and bright child who filled their home with laughter and warmth. They remember her boundless energy and the way her eyes lit up when she spoke of her dreams and aspirations. In 2020, Abigail answered a noble calling to serve her country, enlisting in the United States Army. Over the six years she served, Abigail exemplified the qualities of honor, courage, and dedication. Her fellow soldiers remember her as a compassionate comrade, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer a word of encouragement. Her service to her country remains a testament to her character and her unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. Although Abigail's journey was tragically short, she experienced the profound joy of motherhood. Her children, Ayven Jay Asche and Adrian James Asche, were the light of her life. Her love for them was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Sadly, Ayven and Adrian predeceased her, and we find solace in knowing they are now reunited, embraced by her loving arms once more. Abigail's vibrant spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. She possessed a rare ability to make those around her feel seen and loved, often extending her kindness to those who needed it most. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile could brighten even the darkest of days. As we gather to celebrate Abigail's life, we honor not only her achievements and sacrifices but also the beautiful person she was. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Abigail's life, though brief, was filled with love, courage, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire us all. A memorial service will be held to honor Abigail's life and contributions. Family, friends, and those whose lives she touched are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable person she was. Details of the service will be shared by her family in due course. Though we grieve her loss, we celebrate the extraordinary life that Abigail lived. She was a beacon of strength, love, and resilience, and her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Abigail, knowing that you are deeply loved and missed.
