With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Abbie Joseph Kennedy, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on July 4, 2026. Born on May 23, 1958, in the vibrant city of New Orleans. Abbie lived a life full of warmth, humor, and unwavering faith. Abbie was the cherished son of the late Abbie J. Kennedy, Sr. and Albertha Scott Douglas-Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sisters, Rose Guy and Jeannette Kennedy. Despite these profound losses, Abbie's spirit remained an unyielding beacon of light and love for his surviving family: his sisters Alice K. Washington, Marlene Kennedy, and Sylvia Gordon, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God Child, lifelong childhood friends Steven,Johnnie, and Pastor Lionel. Sharon who held a special place in his heart along with the children and grandchildren he grown to love. A proud graduate of New Orleans Public Schools, Abbie dedicated his professional life to the city he loved, contributing his skills and dedication to the fields of construction, maintenance, and security. Abbie was known for his witty personality and beautiful smile. Abbie had an ability to lighten the mood with humor and meaningful conversation. He enjoyed gatherings, felt loved and appreciated when present in the Lord's House. Reminding those who had ears to hear, how GOD has been good to him. In his leisure time, Abbie delighted in playing board games, fellowship, and strong ties with members of the former Saint Bernard Housing Project, where he was an integral part of the community fabric. To celebrate Abbie’s remarkable life and legacy, a service will be held on July 25, 2026, at the Holy Anointed House of Prayers, located at 1447 Senate Street, New Orleans, LA 70122. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a viewing at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. As we gather to honor Abbie's life, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, embraced by the love of those who went before him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to "Holy Anointed House of Prayers " as a tribute to his dedication and love for his Pastor Lionel Robertson and the church as a place of true worship. Rest in peace, dear Abbie. Your memory will forever be a treasure in our hearts.
