It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Phil the Groundhog, who left us far too soon on February 25, 2026. Born on October 17, 2025, in Decatur, GA, Phil's time with us was brief but deeply cherished by all who knew him. Phil was the beloved son of John and Mary, who welcomed him into the world with love and warmth. Though his time was short, Phil made an indelible mark on those around him. He was a curious and lively groundhog who attended Tree School, where he delighted in the company of his classmates and the education he received among the branches and leaves. Phil spent an impressive 35 days in a tree, a career that, while quite brief, was filled with joy and exploration. His days were spent basking in the sun, napping in the shade, and sharing his love of nuts with whoever crossed his path. It was a simple yet fulfilling life that many of us can only aspire to. In his short journey, Phil was predeceased by his dear friends and family members: Kai, Avery, and Sidney. Their memories, alongside Phil's, will forever remain in the hearts of those they left behind. Phil's sudden departure is a poignant reminder of the fragile beauty of life. His family has shared a special message to honor their cherished groundhog: "We love him." These words capture the essence of Phil's life—a life filled with love, both given and received. A service to celebrate Phil's life will be held on February 25, 2026. While Phil's time with us was fleeting, the impact of his presence will be felt for years to come. His spirit will continue to rustle the leaves of the trees he called home, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Phil. May you find eternal sunshine and endless fields of nuts in the great beyond.
